Like a baws

Yesterday I went to buy groceries in the night since I didn't want to go today, the weather has been pretty fucked up, how much? I just took a shower and I'm sweating, we are at 32 degrees, but it feels like 40, although we have been at 40 this week, anyway, that's not what I'm writing off.

I didn't know that the supermarkets were so full at night, it was like 9:30 when I got there, I didn't notice that there was so many people, so I got in the first line that I saw, big mistake, when I was midway I noticed that that line was a quick line, nothing more than 15 items, but the guy that was in front of me had way more than I had and I saw another one that was almost the same as I, and they attended him.

Suddenly a woman talks through the speaker saying that the line that I was was only for 15 items or less, but no one was moving, so I took the risk of staying there instead of going to another, I had already waited like 15 minutes in that line and I think I had to wait between 7 and 10 till it was my turn.

While I was waiting for my turn I was eavesdropping the other guys who were in the same line, like I said the guy who was in front of me had way more, so if they didn't say anything there shouldn't be a problem, and the guys who were behind me had even more, so it would be stupid to piss so many customers, at least that's what I thought.

When it was the turn of the guy who was in front the cashier told him something, I didn't hear it, but the guy just left everything there and go, I was thinking that I wasn't going to let it happen to me, there must be something to do, reason with her, or something. And I was going to play fool like I didn't hear anything saying that I had my headphones and that I don't wanted to way again like half an hour like I did.

So I start taking the things from my cart to the... thingy where you put your stuff... lol, I cant even remeber how it is called in Spanish, damn this sucks XD, but anyway, the cashier told me that I could only get 15, and I was ready to fight the fight, but then I just got mad and went home and I'll never buy there again...

Nah, just joking, I asked what she said, removing my headphones (I wasn't hearing music at the moment), and she repeated that I could only buy 15 items per cart... per cart.... per cart... and I just had an Idea, my brother accompanied me, he was near the exit of the store, so I said to the cashier, so only 15 items per cart?

She said yes... I yelled to my brother "Christian traite otro carro", and he came with it right away, I counted the first 15 items and paid for them, and asked my brother to take the rest, and paid for them (I had like 22 items in total).

Dammit, I felt bad for her since she was only doing her job and what her boss told her, but I felt good at the same time, I wasn't going to wait again, the lines were worse than when I started, and lets be reasonable here, given normal circumstances I wouldn't have any problem, but everyone had more than 15 items, it was full as hell, and they were trying to impose that rule?

In other stores they don't do that kind of stupid things, neither in Soriana nor in Smart, and I suppose that Walmart isn't that stupid either, the only thing that they do is piss people off, people that have been waiting half an hour in a line, should they have told us before there wouldn't be a problem, but come on, the guys who were in front of me won't be coming back in a long time, if they come back, they lost a customer there, and I didn't stay to see what happened with the ones that were behind.

I just went out like I had won a fight, I felt like a baws XD

Bank fails....

This week I have been very frustrated with my bank/country because it seems that I can't buy or pay anything here, I have tried to pay my internet and electric bill , buy some things at an oxxo on 2 separate occasions (no the same one) and deposit money on my debit card, tried to buy at thinkgeek, and failed miserably, last Friday I couldn't pay a ticket from cinemex, and this week I wasn't able to order one online.

At thinkgeek I had to buy though paypal since they don't accept payments from Mexico because they have had many problems with our country, with the bills it just refused to make the payment saying that it didn't pass some kind of validation from the bank, and at the oxxos I only saw that the program they use stopped working... on three separate occasions. On the other side I have been able to buy from the US without problems, I bought the latest Humble Bundle, Dark Souls from Gamers Gate, another bundle named Indie Royale, and some other thinks.

I find it pretty stupid that I can buy easily from other places outside my country and have such a hard time buying either online or in stores, I don't like to have more money on me than I might need, but thanks to this I have had to go and get cash just in case I need to use it, like in the movies, I feel more secure this way.

Budgets part II

I have been using spreadsheets a lot, mainly I used them to have a record of how much I spent each week, this time I have been using them to have an estimate on how much I'll be using before I move to my new home, since I don't have anything I'll have to buy everything, so far I have an estimate of how much I'll need to get the basics, how much I can spend with each and some things that I have already found that I would like to buy.

First of all my laptop (with a backpack since the one I have isn't big enough and Sergios ticket to bring it to me... or back to Juárez), I know that this is selfish, but what the hell, I better do it now that I don't have any responsibility other than paying my bills and rent, then the refrigerator, I found a used one that looks good enough, if I can get the owner to bring it to me to my house I'll buy that one, only if the price doesn't goes too high with that, I found another one new, so that's my second option.

I already found a bed (new), free shipping and cheap too. Since they are the manufacturers I have only considered this option, but there are some others. I want to buy a induction cooktop (two of these, or this one), but for the moment I'll buy a cheap electric one, similar to the ones I use with my brother, then I'll save to buy a induction one from amazon with international shipping, unless I found another one here that isn't too overpriced.

I found a desk that looks cool too, and doesn't use much space, I love how it is designed to save space, there are others, but since this one is too from the manufacturer I haven't considered other options for the moment, I'll have to go and see it before buying it, the chair doesn't seem to comfortable to someone my size :P

And lastly, from the list of things I really really need a bike, but this one will be a totally different history, I need to go to stores and see them first, I just have an estimate of how much I might need to buy it. Oh, and some pans and stuff, lol.

I'll start buying all this when I get the loan, my boss already told me that there was no problem, but since they are changing bank account to another one I need to wait till they choose one, which will be next week, this one I'll buy with my salary either the refrigerator or the bed.

Lets see how things turn out XD

Update: Woot, just contacted the seller of the refrigerator and he will deliver it to my new house this Sunday XD

Succulent smell of onions...

For the last month I have been bringing my own food to my job, yesterday I brought a salad (apart from some pasta) that had onions and some other things, the problem with it was that it was strong, how strong? It would K.O. you with a single bite or if I trow it at you, it was big before I cut it :P.

I work alone so I don't have any problem with how my food smells (well, I didn't have a problem per se), but I work in a meeting room and this afternoon a client was coming.

Since I am accustomed to eating strong things I didn't note the strong odor, or it didn't bother me, but a coworker came to prepare for the presentation and noted it, and told me that they were going to have that meeting, so he had to go for an air freshener, he had to use a lot, it was really strong, lol, but he was able to hide the odor, and I suppose the meeting went well, who knows :P

P.S. I remember that my mom always nagged at me whenever I cooked with garlic for the same reason, lol.

No water...

The day before yesterday my brother and I had a problem, apparently you can't pay your water bills via internet, my brother payed that way and they sent someone to reduce the service (they reduce it first then cut it if you don't pay), my brother told the guy who went there that he had already paid, but he didn't have the receipt, and since he was unable to prove that he paid, they reduced our water service.

Unfortunately the quantity of water that can gets out is so little that you can't really do anything other than leave it running all day and save it to use it when needed, that's what we did, we had some water bottles that I have been buying since I don't drink tap water (they are 10 liters and I had like 4).

So yesterday and today I had to shower like that, it isn't that bad, but it really pisses me off that we had to pay again since my brother didn't find anything to prove that he paid, if he did...

The think that I do find a nuisance is when I have to wash some dishes, if I use the water from the sink it takes ages, if I use the one I have stored it is too uncomfortable, but luckily we will have our service again today.

On another note, I think I'll never pay anything online here again, at least not services that aren't private, I tried to pay the electric bill and haven't been able to do it, my debit card is declined every time I try, don't know why, but it does, I thought first that I didn't enough money since I had to spend money to pay the rent and the deposit, but I did have enough money, and after what happened with my brother I wont try it again.

Force fields...

Today I learned that there is this strange device at my job that I am unable to see, I noticed it because I crash in to it, this strange device is like a force field, invisible to the eye, solid like crystal, and fragile, should I have been walking faster it might have been broken by now :P

So yeah, I crashed in a crystal door that I didn't know was there, someone closed it so the cold air from the air conditioner wouldn't leave. Lesson learned, never read when you walk >.<

New house...

So, I have a new place, I'll move in two or three weeks there, meanwhile I need to buy the things I'll really really need at least to survive, like a bed, my back is going to kill me if I don't get one quickly XD, a refrigerator, a stove or something to cook, a chair and something to put my laptop, that's all I really really need to move there, and some pans/pots, oh, and internet, I cant go there if there is no internet :P

Once everything I said is there I'll start living there, meanwhile I'll have to wait for at least two weeks which is the time I think it'll take me to buy them.

I'll also ask for a loan at my job to buy some other things that I need/want to have in the house since I'll be there for a long time, I signed the contract for a year.

Maps...

This Sunday I'm going to see a house, it's like 40 minutes walking away from my job, and 15 from the nearest mall, the price seems fair, $2,200 monthly for a two rooms house.

I don't know the zone where it is and this is something I need to check too, I don't want to live in a zone that looks like a ghetto or has cholos, so I looked for the exact location of the house in google maps, although it seems that the map is older since I found the house by number and it is a different color than the owner told me.

Once I located it I started looking in the neighborhood in street view, and so far it looks nice, if I need to use the bus there is one that leaves me near my job (in case it's raining), and the house doesn't look bad, let's see how it turns out this weekend.

House hunting...

So this past week I started looking for a house to rent, I had already made a budget so I knew how much I could afford, unfortunately there were no houses close to my work that cheap, so I was looking for something that had a bus that would go through my job and house.

Luckily this week my boss told me that I was going to receive my new contract and a rise, so now I can use a little more and look for a house closer. I have been sending emails to start looking at houses this weekend. And now that I have been looking for other places I found better deals nearer to my job and just a little more than what I was expecting to pay at first and lower than what I now want.

So, hopefully I'll be moving pretty soon.

Tunneling...

Here at my job I have almost every website remotely interesting blocked. I can't access many pages and I know that I probably shouldn't do it, but what the hell, walls were created for people who cant climb them. A few times I have had to look for something over internet and fail to read it because my router is blocking it's content. Also, I don't like that Netflix has content that I can't access, or that some shows are only in Spanish when they were originally in English (like the office was several months ago), the other reason (and the main really) of why I started using this is because I want google music, but it isn't available outside the US, but Sergio and my brother have it, and I want it, and yes, I know that right now I'm like a child that wants the toy that the other kids have, but what the hell, I don't have to be mature all the time, so, I want it, I want it, I want it :P

So this week I started using one of my servers to do an ssh tunneling and I couldn't be more pleased with it, although I have only used it for Netflix and nothing more (not at my job), there really hasn't been a reason for using it here, although I probably will when I'm eating.

Weird pasta...

As I said yesterday, I am trying new things, yesterday I was going to cook some rice with curry, but I don't know why I put pasta instead of rice, and I noticed until I was already eating, pasta with curry, I never thought of them being together, but it was nice, actually pretty good, it was a curry sauce made with onions, garlic, cremini mushrooms, butter and creme, and it was delicious.

Also, just finished watching the BBC series Sherlock Holmes (with Benedict Cumberbatch) and it was awesome too, would recommend it if you like detective series.

Trying new things...

I think I already have said this, but I love to try new things, specially new foods, so this week I decided to buy some new things.

I don't know why, but I haven't been able to find black tea here, and I ran out of it a few weeks ago, so I had been drinking some earl grey, and while I love it, it isn't the same. Today I found another kind of tea, flavored black tea, there were like three or four, but the one that I picked was some vanilla flavored black tea since I love vanilla. And it was pretty good, although not black tea, lol, but it will suffice for some time.

The other new think I bought is some almond and rice milk, since every morning I only eat cereal for breakfast I need to have milk, but normal milk wont last till the next week, even if it says that it, it has gone bad at least twice, so I had to either go to buy two times milk or buy some that would last longer in the fridge.

A couple of weeks ago I found some vanilla soy milk and I bought it because it last way longer than normal milk, and I'm not that picky with food, it wasn't bad, so next week I was going to buy some more, but I didn't find it since I went to another place, so I bought another brand, this time it was plain soy milk, and strangely it was way better, and more expensive too.

So this week I was going to buy the same one, but I went to the place where I bought the first one and didn't find it, so I bought yet another two different ones, some rice milk and almond milk, so far I have only tasted the rice milk and it was pretty good.

Also I bought some cremini mushrooms and they are awesome sauteed with some pasta.

So yeah, I have been trying some new things and being enjoying them.

Documenting and debugging...

So this week my boss was out, I only saw him on Monday and Friday, and since I was finishing one part of the program I'm doing this past Wednesday I decided to document my scripts better than I had done (more descriptive) and test other parts that had given me some problems before.

I literally was falling asleep in front of my pc because of this, I had to go out and walk a little, unfortunately it isn't as easy as when one works at home, so I went to buy some cookies to a nearby store. Once I got back I continued with my testing and so far everything is working as intended, I tried to dry (dry stands for don't repeat yourself) my code a little since some parts look repetitive.

I finally saw my boss yesterday and so far everything looks like it's working pretty well, although I had a very hard time this week learning how to make charts from the data I have, it wasn't difficult, but tedious, and it included a lot of data manipulation, but in the end I was able to do it like my boss wanted to :P

Making friends...

In the time that I have been here I haven't made friends, I barely know anyone besides my family and my brother, and the people that I work with. I have tried to keep in touch with my old friends but so far I only speak regularly with three of them, you guys and my family obviously XD.

I have lost contact with most of my other friends, but that was even before coming here, and I have eliminated many people from facebook in the past weeks. I only speak with one friend there and that's because she resists to talk on gmail :P, and my sisters, although we use skype more than facebook, so now I have less than 40 people (probably less than 30) in facebook, down from almost 150 "friends" that I had before I started eliminating people.

Here at my job I don't really speak with most people, I only speak with two women and my boss, most people only likes to talk about football, one of the things that bores me more than anything in this world, so yeah, not really interested in talking with them, lol, unfortunately this city is just full of people passionate about football, included my uncles and aunts, and cousins. And with my boss, it's weird, he is as big a nerd as any of us, but he is my boss, lol, so we chitchat a little then back to work.

So yeah I haven't been able to make any friends, but at least I have been able to keep in touch with my old friends :)

A trip around the sun...

I have been working out for some time now, but I never took it as seriously as last year, a whole trip around the sun that I have been doing this pretty regularly, not less than 4 days a week and as much as 6, I have had my ups and downs, and there have been weeks when I didn't do anything, but that was really when I couldn't do it, like past December when I got sick and hurt ankle (again :P), and when I moved to Monterrey, I couldn't do much, although I walked everyday, so that's something.

Yesterday I jumped the rope for more than 40 minutes almost nonstop and did much more than I usually do and didn't get tired, so I tried to do it harder and quicker, and I hit myself a lot, lol, but my legs started to hurt a little and I was pretty hungry so I stopped to eat.

So yeah, the point to this post is that I really feel great with my progress from the last year or so, and I have lost a lot of weight, I don't know how much though, but I know that more than 20, maybe 25 kilos aren't here anymore, in February I was able to run for like 17 minutes (maybe more since I usually ran three times that) without stopping to rest or drink water. Maybe it isn't that much for most people, but for someone as lazy as me is a lot.

New phone

So
Yesterday I received my new phone and it's awesome, I love it, although very different from my previous one, so I have to learn lots of new things. It's a Nexus 4, the same Sergio has, and I finally have a camera, so I'll be able to take photos.
