Does not compute

So, a friend of mine asked me to repair her computer, I was supposed to just clean the system, just that. I got it last week and since she wasn't going to need it I almost forgot about it for the week and was going to start to work in it this weekend.

Ok, so it is Sunday in the morning and I start to connect everything to start working, everything is fine, all the cables in their place, press the power switch and... nothing. No problem, maybe the switch in the back of the computer is off. I check and everything is ok, so there is a problem.
The computer is connected and it won't turn on... I check every cable inside the computer to see if that was the problem. And no problem here either, everything is ok there too. I disconnect the cables from the switch and check them with my fathers multimeter and it is working. I start to get a little frustrated because I was supposed to only clean this computer.

I called my friend to ask her in what conditions was the computer and she told me that it hasn't been used for like half a year. That the cable from the monitor had a problem and that the monitor was death. And since then no one ever tried to turn on the computer. I told her that it might be death, but I was going to check what was the problem.

I was going to go out so I left the computer in my fathers work room. Today when he came back from work told me that the power source and the motherboard were death, he checked them yesterday.
This is something I wasn't expecting :/
Bad luck

  3. Yeah, parents that are great with computers is a rare thing. But I wouldn't call it bad "luck", I mean, hardware fails. That is what it does haha

  4. My father is an electronics engineer :P thats why he knows how to check that, actually when it is hardware problems he helps me if I get stuck, thats why I know some things about it too.
And it's thanks to that that I know about computers, I have had computers since I was little (when I was like 9 years), and started with windows 3.1 or a commodore, cant remember, he had both at the time
